Create My OwnStegosaurus Maze
Solve a maze hidden inside the silhouette of a Stegosaurus, complete with plates, tail spikes, and prehistoric charm.
About
Stegosaurus was a plant-eating dinosaur that lived during the Late Jurassic Period, more than 145 million years ago. It is famous for the tall plates along its back and the spikes on the end of its tail. Those tail spikes are often called a thagomizer.
Stegosaurus walked on four legs and had a small head compared with its large body. Scientists think it ate low-growing plants such as ferns, cycads, and other prehistoric vegetation. Its beak-like mouth helped it crop plant material as it moved through its habitat.
In this activity, the maze is built inside the outline of a Stegosaurus. Kids can solve the path while noticing the dinosaur's body shape, back plates, tail, legs, and head. It blends puzzle practice with dinosaur recognition in one prehistoric activity sheet.
History & Culture
Stegosaurus fossils have been found in western North America, especially in rocks from the Morrison Formation. Since its discovery in the late nineteenth century, Stegosaurus has become one of the most recognizable dinosaurs in museums, books, and classrooms.
Paleontologists study fossil bones, tracks, rocks, and plant clues to understand how dinosaurs lived. Even when some details are still debated, each fossil discovery helps build a clearer picture of prehistoric life.

Activities & Discussion
- 1
Solve the Body Maze
Find the start and follow the path through the maze inside the Stegosaurus silhouette. Move carefully through the twists without crossing maze walls.
- 2
Trace the Dinosaur Shape
After solving the maze, trace the outside outline of the Stegosaurus. Look for the head, legs, tail spikes, and plates along its back.
- 3
Add Prehistoric Details
Draw ferns, rocks, footprints, or clouds around the finished Stegosaurus. Add one plant that this herbivore might have eaten.
